Chubb launches identity restoration service

The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has partnered with CyberScout, LLC, to help Chubb homeowners customers recover or recreate missing personal identification and documentation after a disaster or other mishap. In addition to complimentary access to the new Identity Disaster Response 911 service, homeowners customers can obtain assistance from CyberScout if they fall victim to identity theft.

Identity Disaster Response 911 will help disaster victims obtain emergency identity authentication and verification and access to their investment and bank accounts.

CyberScout will work with government agencies and financial institutions to replace not only customers’ identification documents such as birth certificates, driver’s licenses, passports and Social Security cards but also checks and credit/debit cards.

“This new service is especially important following a hurricane, terrorist attack or other catastrophe when individuals may have quickly evacuated their homes, potentially leaving behind some forms of identification, bank account numbers and various insurance policies,” said Peter Spicer, vice president, Chubb & Son, and new product manager, Chubb Personal Insurance. “In situations like these, people cannot even begin the road to recovery without valid identification and other personal records.”

CyberScout will also help Chubb homeowners customers resolve credit and other problems in the event of identity theft or fraud.  The firm will assign a personal advocate to guide a victim through the complicated process of identity theft recovery. The advocate can assist with the completion of a Federal Trade Commission affidavit; place calls to police departments, creditors and credit rating agencies; and set up a case file for insurance claims and law enforcement investigations. In addition, victims will receive a full-year of credit and fraud monitoring, and, in certain states, they may be able to prevent further credit damage by freezing credit files.

CyberScout can even provide assistance when a homeowners customer loses a wallet. “Losing one’s wallet can be a personal catastrophe,” said Spicer.  “In that case, CyberScout can help determine the best measures our customer can take to minimize exposure to identity theft.”

Chubb includes identity theft coverage in homeowners policies in nearly all 50 states, as well as in Washington, DC. The coverage reimburses customers for a variety of identity fraud expenses.

“CyberScout will help mitigate these expenses and reduce the paperwork, phone calls and other hassles for victims at a time of great stress,” said Spicer. “They’ll also provide our customers with best practices to reduce the risk of identity theft.”
