CyberScout to Host Complimentary Webinar to Help Healthcare Companies Protect Seniors from Medical Identity Theft

CyberScout (CyberScout), the nation’s premier consultative provider of identity and data risk management, resolution and education services  will host a complimentary webinar titled Clean Bill of Health: Protecting Seniors from Medical ID Theft, Fraud and Exploitation on Thursday, May 1, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. The webinar is designed to help healthcare companies learn how to protect seniors from identity theft, in turn safeguarding their organization from costly, time-consuming, and potentially dangerous ramifications. At the end of the webinar, attendees will understand why medical data is a goldmine for thieves, and what best practices can be implemented to protect providers and an aging population.

The nightmare begins when someone uses a stolen identity to rack up medical bills and file false insurance claims. When medical records are tainted with false histories and diagnoses, critical treatment can be delayed, and the wrong medications can be prescribed with dangerous consequences for patients and their providers. Medical identity theft includes Medicare and Medicaid programs, where fraud is a growing concern. Fraudsters are using Social Security numbers (SSNs) to obtain medical care and submit fake billings to Medicare in your patients’ names—resulting in improper payments, damage to a patient’s credit rating, and waste of taxpayer dollars. That’s why it’s so important for healthcare organizations to protect their information systems especially while making the transition to electronic health records (EHR) and using mobile technology.

The alarming frequency of medical identity fraud—particularly among seniors—poses a significant threat to policyholders.
The exposure of their personal health data puts them at a greater risk for medical identity theft, Medicare fraud—and even misdiagnoses, mistreatments, and improper medications.

CyberScout Chief Privacy Officer Eduard Goodman will be joined by Vantage Health Solutions Consultant Bryan Hebert to share key insights on:

  • Why medical data is increasingly vulnerable to thieves
  • How providers can impact each other—for better and worse
  • Why older adults are at greater risk
  • Surprising places where personal health data can be exposed
  • Best practices for providers and seniors

The webinar will explain how the move to electronic health records and other digital platforms is contributing to the problem, and it will walk through why older adults are at heightened risk. Plus, experts will show attendees how to educate policyholders so they can take measures to protect themselves, all while keeping your healthcare organization’s reputation, risk, and bottom line in mind.
